Beef cattle producers interested in honing their cattle marketing skills are the focus of four Southeast Beef Cattle Marketing Schools this summer. The workshops are: July 13-14 at the Newberry County Farm Bureau, Newberry, SC; July 19-20, North Georgia Research Educational Center, Calhoun; Aug. 8-9, Columbia County Extension Office, Lake City, FL; and Sept. 14-15, Auburn University Beef Teaching Unit, Auburn, AL.
University and USDA specialists will combine hands-on learning and live-animal evaluation with classroom examples to help cattlemen reduce risk and improve profit. Participants will see live cattle and learn how they fit into today's market, learning about cattle cycles, how to anticipate prices, and use futures and options to increase profits. The Livestock Risk Protection (LRP) insurance program also will be covered, as will alternative marketing methods such as video board sales, tele-auctions and marketing cattle.
The $35 registration includes materials, meals, breaks and refreshments for one workshop. Call 229-386-3416 or visit www.ugatiftonconference.org.
