USDA has ended its National Animal Identification System (NAIS) in favor of developing “a new, flexible framework for animal disease traceability in the U.S.” USDA says that framework “provides the basic tenets of an improved animal disease traceability capability in the U.S.”

USDA plans to convene with animal health leaders for the states and tribal nations to dialog about possible ways of achieving the flexible, coordinated approach to animal disease traceability it envisions.
