National Ag Week runs from March 13-19, and it’s a great time to promote the people behind the food and fiber we often take for granted of. National Ag Week is about recognizing and celebrating how agriculture impacts our everyday lives and the many ways people rely on the food, fiber and renewable resources farmers and ranchers produce.

Here are four ways to promote National Ag Week and National Ag Day (March 15) this week:

1. Host an Ag Day event

The Agriculture Council of America, which spearheads the National Ag Day campaign, has compiled resources for individuals, organizations or schools that are interested in hosting an Ag Day event. To determine a message, identify an audience and choose from one of the group’s creative ideas, click here.

2. Send a letter to the editor

Reach out to your community with a simple letter to the editor, alerting your neighbors about National Ag Day and reminding them how agriculture enriches their lives. For a sample letter, click here.

3. Coordinate with a local radio station for a PSA

Create buzz surrounding National Ag Day with a public service announcement to play on your local radio station. For a sample PSA, click here. 

4. Get involved on social media

Use the hashtag #agday2016 on Twitter and Facebook and tell your agricultural story online. Upload your personal photos from calving to go along with your posts. For ideas on how to promote agriculture this week online, click here.

5. Connect with teachers

Additionally, to celebrate National Agriculture Week and spread the word about ag education in urban classrooms, U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance is hosting a Twitter Chat on Thursday, March 17 at 4:00 p.m. CST. The topic is "How to incorporate agriculture into your classroom," and teachers will be encouraged to utilize Discovering FARMLAND as a free resource to provide students an in-depth view of critical issues impacting the agriculture industry.
