Cattlemen promote beef, raise money to supply food banks with protein

I’m really proud of my home state and fellow beef producers in South Dakota, who have come together to form the South Dakota Cattlemen’s Foundation (SDCF) and host the Prime Time Gala & Concert. It’s an upscale banquet and entertainment event that raises money to fight hunger and supply local food banks with beef.

This year’s event will take place June 27 at the Sioux Falls Arena, and will feature country music artists Billy Currington and Tyler Farr.

This is the second year SDCF has teamed up with Feeding South Dakota to host this event. The first annual gala raised more than $115,000 to provide beef to food-insecure families throughout the state. This donation provided over 68,100 pounds of beef and equates to approximately 56,802 meals.

This unique event is a win-win for beef producers and consumers alike. Not only do concert-goers get to appreciate great country music, but learn more about the state’s beef industry. At a time when many consumers are seeking more background on those who produce their food, this event allows beef producers to both help reduce a critical social need and mingle directly with the public.

For instance, consider that of the 12.5 million pounds of food that Feeding South Dakota distributes annually, only 5% of that is animal protein. Therefore, South Dakota beef producers’ efforts are extremely critical to “beefing up” the diet of those in need! This is such a great promotion of beef, and it would be great to see other states follow the lead of South Dakota beef producers.

I missed last year’s inaugural gala as it was held shortly after the birth of my daughter, but I definitely plan to be in attendance this year. I don’t know of a better way to help promote beef, fight hunger, mingle with other beef producers, and enjoy a fun evening with great food and good music.

Tickets for the Billy Currington and Tyler Farr concert go on sale this Friday, February 13, at www.ticketmaster.com. Ticket prices range from $25 to $55 for the concert only.

Folks are also invited to attend the entire Prime Time Gala event, which includes an upscale dinner, guest speaker, benefit auction and reserved seating at the Billy Currington concert are $125 per person or $1,000 for a table of eight. Tickets can be purchased at www.sdprimetimegala.com.

I applaud the SDCF for creating and hosting such an awesome event that is making a difference in the lives of those who are food insecure while also promoting beef and the state’s cattle industry.

If you can make it to this event, I encourage you to attend. Help spread the word about the Prime Time Gala & Concert by sharing today’s post on your social media sites. Thanks for your help!
