NEW Photo Contest: Celebrating America’s cattle producers

Labor Day began on Sept. 5, 1882 and celebrates the social and economic achievements of American workers. This holiday is an annual national tribute that offers a nod to the contributions workers have made in making our nation strong and prosperous.

As many enjoy a day’s vacation for Labor Day, American ranchers will still tend to their cattle, just as they do every other day of the year. When I think about hard-working Americans, I think ranchers rank at the top of the list. Agriculturalists face many challenges in their labor — calculated risks, unpredictable weather conditions and volatile markets can make the cattle business a challenging career choice.

As a salute to the men and women who comprise this great cattle industry of ours, BEEF has teamed up with Greeley Hat Works to sponsor a photo contest. Below are the details you need to know to enter:

1. Contest theme: Celebrating America’s cattle producers

During the month of September, we are seeking photos of hard-working American cattlemen and women. Whether it’s sorting cattle, feeding calves, fixing fence, putting up hay, hauling manure or any other task cattle producers tackle in their jobs, this photo contest aims to capture the essence of a working ranch.

2. How to enter

To enter, simply email me a photo with your name, address and a title or caption for the image. All photos will be compiled into a photo gallery, so check back often to see new images. One entry per person please. Helpful hint: if you have several photos you would like to enter, consider submitting them under a family member’s name. In previous contests, we have had many families submit multiple images this way.

3. Contest prizes

Greeley Hat Works will give a customized cowboy hat to the grand and reserve champion photographers, valued at $300. Plus, we will have three western photography coffee table books to gift to three randomly selected voters who help choose our champions.

4. Contest timeline

Entries will be accepted from now until noon on Sept. 18. Finalists will be announced on Sept. 21 with voting to run until noon on Sept. 25. On Sept. 28, we will announce our champions.

I’m looking forward to seeing your submissions and thanks in advance for your participation! Let’s have a great photo contest this September!
