Meat Market Update | Declining export sales impact volume

Ed Czerwien, USDA Market News reporter in Amarillo, Texas, provides us with the latest outlook on boxed beef prices and the weekly cattle trade.

The weekly average Choice cutout continued to drop but was down only $1.98. Sales volume dropped about 300 loads but that was due primarily to the drop in overseas export sales. Domestic sales were still good and the daily Choice cutout started to improve on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 2nd and 3rd ahead of the upcoming Labor Day holiday on the heels of the improving Choice rib prices.
