Meat Market Update | Formula sales moderate wild swings in price

Ed Czerwien, USDA Market News reporter in Amarillo, TX, provides us with the latest outlook on boxed beef prices and the weekly cattle trade.

The Comprehensive Choice or average cutout was only $.55 cents lower on the heels of a daily spot Choice cutout that was $4.86 lower by Friday. The cutout was buffered by the formula prices which represented 53 percent of the total sales. Many of the formula sales are priced off of previous sales so they tend to moderate wild swings in prices.
