Meat Market Update | Ground beef and sausage products rule the grill

Ed Czerwien, USDA Market News reporter in Amarillo, Texas, provides us with the latest outlook on boxed beef prices and the weekly cattle trade.

The Weekly Average Choice cutout was $2.83 lower on the heels of the dropping Choice rib and loin prices which is a normal seasonal event as we switch over to the dog days of summer when more hamburgers and sausage products get used for grilling. However, the total volume of sales during the last four weeks has been much higher than last year and has been helped by more out-front sales.
