Meat Market Update | Memorial Day holiday pushes prices higher

Ed Czerwien, USDA Market News reporter in Amarillo, TX, provides us with the latest outlook on boxed beef prices and the weekly cattle trade.

The big news for the week continues to be the demand that is generated by the big grilling holiday. The elevated demand is evident when you look at the graph of the primal loin and rib prices. The loin in particular is much higher than last year, and actually caught up with the rib prices. These cuts are basically carrying the cutout higher by themselves.
