Meat Market Update | Sales volume sees huge boost from Father's Day weekend

Ed Czerwien, USDA Market News reporter in Amarillo, Texas, provides us with the latest outlook on boxed beef prices and the weekly cattle trade.

The Daily Choice box beef cutout started to drop on Wednesday but that was due primarily to the fact that Father's Day product was already delivered. The average Choice cutout dropped only $1.59 for the week, but sales volume was very good with 7,073 total loads sold -- the largest volume since October of last year. That big increase in volume indicates that beef movement for last week's big grilling holiday was good.
