Meat Market Update | Total sales volume down

Ed Czerwien, USDA Market News reporter in Amarillo, TX, provides us with the latest outlook on boxed beef prices and the weekly cattle trade.

The daily Choice cutout had jumped about $5 higher last week in the midst of the big snow storm when several plants were shut down, however, it started to decline back down on Friday when it lost about half of the storm rally then continued the downward movement this week.

Total volume of sales was down as well. There were 5,419 total loads sold for the week, which were 1,085 loads lower than the previous week and no doubt was also influenced by the big storm that closed plants as well as roads.
