5 ways to celebrate National FFA Week
Amanda Radke

It’s National FFA week, and each year during the February celebration, I’m reminded of the fond memories I have from my high school days wearing the corduroy blue jackets. Countless friendships and a professional network were developed through four years of leadership camps, judging contests, national trips, community service projects and chapter meetings.

Because I have such a soft spot for FFA, I want to share five fun ways that you can join me in supporting the National FFA organization. Here’s how you can get involved this week:

1. Celebrate Give FFA Day on Feb. 21

This one-day campaign focuses on collecting monetary investments for future FFA programs. You can choose to contribute to an FFA scholarship, support a local FFA advisor, donate a blue jacket to an FFA member in need and even text GROW to 27722 to make an instant $10 donation.

2. Bring your FFA jacket to work

Gerri Eide, South Dakota FFA Foundation, Inc., executive director, is encouraging FFA alumni to bring their corduroy jackets to work to promote the organization.

Eide writes, “The FFA is not an organization you can forget about once you’ve left high school! We want you to share that pride with others around you and are asking you to bring your jacket to work during the National FFA Week. Drape your jacket on the back of your work chair; hang it in your car for all to see; or display it on your coat rack at work.

“It may take some time to find your jacket — but it’s still there; maybe in the attic, in that back closet, or in that box of high school memories. Show everyone you know that you support the FFA and that you are FOREVER BLUE!”

3. Get involved in a community service project

Join your local FFA chapter to help clean a highway ditch, build wheel-chair accessible garden planters for community nursing homes or volunteer your time in a variety of ways. Contact your local chapter to find out how you can help or click here to learn about possible service ideas you could implement in your area.

4. Shop at Tractor Supply Company (TSC) to support FFA’s Grant for Growing

Designed to impact local communities, TSC retail stores and local FFA chapters have partnered through FFA week to raise funds through the sale of paper emblems. For every sale, $1  or more will be collected at checkout from Feb. 17-26. Learn more about this program by clicking here.

5. National Wear Blue Day

On Friday, Feb. 24, wear blue to show your FFA pride. It’s a simple and easy way to show your support to the future leaders in agriculture. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #FFAweek to showcase the ways you choose to support the National FFA organization this week.

Happy National FFA Week to all of our BEEF readers/FFA alumni!
