Mike Pearson tells listeners about the Smokehouse Creek wildfire that started last week and how it's ravaging land, cattle and homes in Texas.

So far, over 1 million acres have burned. And to make matters worse, heat and high winds stopped firefighters from doing a full sweep of the area. It's the largest wildfire in Texas history. Many lives have been lost.

Ranch families will see a huge impact because of the number of cattle killed by the flames.

Flames that are one story high can burn an entire football field in a minute. Many ranch families escaped with the clothes on their back and that's all.

Supplies for producers such as fencing materials, feed, hay and milk replacer are being collected to help them handle the disaster. The donations will go directly to those who need them and the hay hotline is being used to get hay collected or go to TSCRA for more donation locations.

Farm Progress America is a daily look at key issues in agriculture. It is produced and presented by Mike Pearson, farm broadcaster and host of This Week in Agribusiness.
