How Feedlots Are Managing With Fewer Cattle

Feedlots staying the fullest amid the shortest cattle numbers in more than five decades are taking on the added risk of owning a larger percentage of the cattle themselves, while also utilizing risk management to a greater extent than before, says Kevin Good, senior analyst at CattleFax. While taking a longer term approach to supply chain management, Good says yards with the highest occupancy rates are also utilizing the latest technology to enhance cattle performance and placing a priority on gathering information that enables more effective decision making.
