IPT Bull Sale leads off 2010 Illinois Beef Expo

The 42nd-Annual Illinois Performance Tested (IPT) Bull Sale will lead off the 2010 Illinois Beef Expo. The sale will start at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25, at the Illinois State Fairgrounds Livestock Center in Springfield.

The sale includes 123 elite performance-tested bulls. Buyers will find 17 bulls born in 2008 that are ready for heavy use, and 106 yearling bulls born in December through March. The sale line-up consists of 65 Angus, 53 Simmental, three Polled Hereford, and two Red Angus bulls.

“Bulls consigned in the IPT Bull Sale meet some of the most stringent requirements in the United States,” Dave Seibert, IPT sale manager, said. “Approximately two-thirds of the 695 bulls nominated to this sale during the past five years have actually made it into the sale. Bulls are screened at nomination, at cataloging, and during processing for the sale.”

The sale promotes and emphasizes performance and carcass trait improvement through the use of Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs). The 2010 sale index will place equal emphasis on EPDs for birth weight, weaning weight, yearling weight, maternal milk, marbling and ribeye area.

The sale catalog will be available at The web-based catalog contains performance, carcass and pedigree information on each bull cataloged. The web catalog will be complete except for presale measurements such as frame score, pelvic measurement, scrotal circumference, and sale-day weight.

Actual copies of the sale catalog will be available Jan. 25 and can be obtained by contacting IPT Sale Manager Dave Seibert at 309-694-7501, Ext. 224, by mailing him a request at 727 Sabrina Drive, East Peoria, IL 61611, or by e-mailing requests to [email protected]
