Serving South Dakota livestock producers as the Extension Range Livestock Specialist at South Dakota State University since 2005, Eric Mousel will continue to work with livestock producers in his new position as Millborn's forage and alfalfa specialist.
Mousel grew up on a commercial cow/calf operation near Hastings, Neb.; he received his undergraduate degree from Kansas State University and spent two years managing a large cattle ranch in Kansas. Managing large groups of grass-cattle on open range influenced his decision to pursue a doctorate in range and forage management from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
"I have seen first-hand how critical forage management is to the sustainability and success of a cattle operation," Mousel said.
His graduate research focused on grazing management. Mousel will call upon his years of experience and research when helping Millborn customers maximize the productivity of their grazing acres and hay fields.
"I think this position combines the work I did at SDSU with the experience I gained as a ranch manager to provide practical management recommendations to producers who are trying to maximize the productivity potential of their ground," said Mousel who will continue to work as an adjunct professor of animal science at SDSU.
Megan Nelson is a graphic design and advertising graduate of South Dakota State University.
A born communicator, Nelson spent most of her professional career in customer service. In her new role as customer support specialist, Nelson will work closely with Millborn's commercial customers.
