Meat Market Update | Another big week for volume supports cutout

Ed Czerwien, market analyst based in Amarillo, Texas, offers a concise summary of how last week's beef trade impacted the cattle market and beef prices.

It was another big week of box beef sales volume supported again by large out-front sales, which included another very good week of the longer-term forward contracts. The daily spot Choice cutout was steady to firm all week long supported by last minute purchasing for the Labor Day holiday, even though the weekly average Choice cutout dropped a little more. Also, the daily spot Choice cutout was higher early this week as retailers ordered product to restock shelves after that holiday weekend.
