Meat Market Update | Choice cutout sees big loss after recent primal rally ends

Ed Czerwien, USDA Market News reporter in Amarillo, Texas, offers a concise summary of how last week's beef trade impacted the cattle market and beef prices.

The weekly average Choice cutout dropped over $6 after the end of the recent rally that was supported by the round and chuck price improvement that began in early December. However, the weekly average Choice Chuck and Round primal dropped $8-11 this week as meat buyers pulled back on their purchases which pushed the cutout lower. These two primals had enjoyed a very strong rally that started earlier than normal in December.
