Meat Market Update | Choice rib primal rally pulls cutout higher

Ed Czerwien, market analyst based in Amarillo, Texas, offers a concise summary of how last week's beef trade impacted the cattle market and beef prices.

The daily spot Choice box beef cutout ended the week of September 30 at $196.62, which was $5.02 higher compared to previous Friday. It jumped even more on the following Monday and Tuesday

It was pulled up by a $24 rally in the daily Choice rib primal during the week, and the rib primal jumped almost another $20 on Monday, October 2 and Tuesday, October 3. It is following last year’s small seasonal rally that was driven by this rib primal and a return to grilling during the wonderful fall weather.

Other positive news comes from the export sector, where there were over 1,000 loads again this week.
