Meat Market Update | Cutout down compared to 2017

Ed Czerwien, market analyst based in Amarillo, Texas, offers a concise summary of how last week's beef trade impacted the cattle market and beef prices.

The daily spot Choice box beef cutout ended the week last Friday at $227.43 which was $4.78 lower compared to previous Friday. It's valuable to compare this last year where the daily Choice cutout was $245 and was down just a little over $1 after the Memorial Day weekend rally. The daily Choice rib primal, which is the main driving force for the grilling rally finished the week on Friday down almost $18 at $378. Last year it was $424.

This is the time of the year when it the cutout drops a little because Memorial Day sales are over but then normally it starts to firm up a little prior to Father’s Day and the Fourth of July.
