Meat Market Update with Ed Czerwien

Meat Market Update | Prices decline, will we see rally?

Ed Czerwien, market analyst based in Amarillo, Texas, offers a concise summary of how last week's beef trade impacted the cattle market and beef prices.

The daily spot Choice box beef cutout ended the week last Friday at $223.09 which was $2.50 lower compared to previous Friday. And then it continued to decline more. The daily Choice rib primal was $2.86 lower this week but dropped another $8 dollars by Wednesday, March 28. The daily Choice loin primal continued to drop also with both primals driving the cutout lower. This is normal for a decline around Easter. This recent decline showed that it is definitely following the previous two years' early season grilling tops, but last year’s late grilling season rally was tremendous in May through Father’s Day.
