Meat Market Update| Tough week as cutout drops $5

Ed Czerwien, market analyst based in Amarillo, Texas, offers a concise summary of how last week's beef trade impacted the cattle market and beef prices.

Another very tough week, with both the daily and weekly average Choice cutout dropping more than $5 at a time when in previous years, prices actually improved just a little for Labor Day sales. However, sales volume continues to increase on the heels of large forward contracts and other out-front sales, but the out-front prices were mostly lower than the current formula prices for the largest volume items.
