Weekly Cattle Market Wrap Up | Big run of feeder cattle as prices improved

USDA Market Reporter Ed Czerwien provides his weekly market outlook on feeder cattle and slaughter cows.

Big run of feeder cattle as prices improved with 43,600 head at the test auctions which was 9,000 over last week and 10,000 over last year. Higher prices are encouraging early movement of feeder cattle off of graze out wheat pastures with big numbers of steers over 800 lbs. and heifers over 7000 lbs.
 
Big run of slaughter cows particularly in the Southern plains where prices saw a drop but other areas where steady to higher. Cow meat prices have varied a lot lately but finally saw a rebound on Wednesday with 90% trimmings about $3 higher than last Wednesday, pushing the cow cutout over $1 higher.
