Weekly Cattle Market Wrap Up

Weekly Cattle Market Wrap Up | Prices move higher, despite big feeder cattle run

USDA Market Reporter Ed Czerwien provides his weekly market outlook on feeder cattle and slaughter cows.

There was another very big run of feeder cattle as we approached the wheat insurance deadline March 15 with 54,200 head at the test auctions, but prices were steady to $3 higher.

As far as slaughter cows, receipts jumped back up to where they were a couple of weeks ago with increased numbers of bred cows and feeding type cows, along with slaughter cows. Prices were mostly steady, especially on lean type cows because those 90 % trimmings have jumped about $7 since March 1st.
