Weekly Cattle Market Wrap Up

Weekly Cattle Market Wrap-Up | Slaughter cows, feeder cattle see jump in volume, price

USDA Market Reporter Ed Czerwien provides his weekly market outlook on feeder cattle and slaughter cows.

There was a big jump in feeder cattle receipts with 51,000 head at the test auctions. Prices were mostly steady to $4 higher but calves were even up to $8 higher. Tuesday's big jump on the CME futures pushed the prices even higher midweek.

As far as slaughter cow markets, there was a very big run of cows at our 20 test auctions with 10,300 head, but lots of bred cows which is normal this time of the year. Prices were steady to $1 higher on the heels of the jumping cow meat prices. The bulk of the younger bred cows were $1,000 to $1,400 dollars per head with a few higher.
