Meat Market Update | Despite higher sales volume, more cold storage remains

Ed Czerwien, USDA Market News reporter in Amarillo, Texas, provides us with the latest outlook on boxed beef prices and the weekly cattle trade.

Sales volume has actually been very good the last few months compared to last year and there have been several weeks over 7000 loads. However, we have also produced more product this year, which along with the big drop in 50% beef trimming prices has resulted in larger cold storage supplies. Thus, the 50% trimming prices, which were over $0.70 early in August, have dopped down to $0.32 at the end of September.
