Meat Market Update | Out-front sales jumpstart total sales

Ed Czerwien, USDA Market News reporter in Amarillo, Texas, provides us with the latest outlook on boxed beef prices and the weekly cattle trade.

Total sales were at 7,527 loads, which was a big jump of over 1,100 loads. The out-front sales led the jump with a whopping 1,969 loads sold which was a 1,059 increase. This was an extremely large number at a time of the year when out-front sales are relatively low, but meat buyers are obviously starting to lock more product up.
