Meat Market Update | Break between seasonal rallies pulls beef cutout lower

A slow start to a otherwise normal seasonal rally, and an abrupt end to the Prime Rib rally, has created a lull in the market and in turn, pushed the cutout lower.

The seasonal declining daily Choice rib primal started and dropped $94 per cwt in just two weeks, which pushed the cutout lower. This is a normal situation as Prime Rib sales for the big Christmas party season was over, but last year the Round and Chuck primals started a big rally early, which offset these declining Rib prices and actually pushed the cutout higher. However this year the Round and Chuck have not started their normal seasonal rally yet.
