For the second year, in support of its Prevention Works philosophy, Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. (BIVI) is offering the Future Service Scholarship to support future cattle veterinarians graduating from the Iowa State University (ISU) College of Veterinary Medicine.
BIVI has formed an alliance with the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association Foundation to offer this unique scholarship to a graduating senior at ISU. The amount of the scholarship will be determined by BIVI veterinarian and producer customers submitting box tops from Pyramid® 5 and Pyramid® 5 + Presponse® SQ product boxes.
During 2014, producers and veterinarians throughout Iowa are encouraged to clip and save their box tops. BIVI will donate $2.50 per 100 doses of PYRAMID 5 + PRESPONSE SQ and $1.25 per 100 doses of PYRAMID 5 to fund the Future Service Scholarship. And, producers and veterinarians who are enrolled in the Iowa Green and Gold Tag Preconditioning Program will receive double the donation at $5.00 per 100 doses of PYRAMID 5 + PRESPONSE SQ and $2.50 per 100 doses of PYRAMID 5.
The promotion will run through Dec. 31, 2014.
“The cattle industry is experiencing some of its finest times in recent history. Innovation, technology and a partnership with a knowledgeable veterinarian can be an integral part of the cattleman’s recipe for success. This is why we are excited Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc., is helping to attract and reward new graduates that want to specialize in bovine production. We welcome these talented individuals and hope this contribution will lead to a successful career,” says Dr. Alden Frischmeyer, Iowa Veterinary Medical Foundation president and production animal practitioner.
The scholarship will be presented at Senior Award Night in May 2015. To help fund the scholarship, veterinarians need to send their box tops to:

“This scholarship will provide monetary support for educational expenses. Veterinary student educational debt has doubled over the last 10 years, leaving many veterinarians struggling early in their careers. Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc., with the support of practicing veterinarians in the state of Iowa, has taken up the cause and is generously supporting tomorrow’s veterinarians. For this, we are very appreciative, and we look forward to this important partnership,” adds Dr. Jennifer Schleining, associate professor at Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Vice President of the IVMA.
IVMA administers the Iowa Green and Gold Tag Preconditioning Program, which requires that all calves in the preconditioning program be vaccinated for a number of diseases, including the five key viral causes of respiratory disease — BVD Types 1 and 2, IBR, BRSV and PI3 — plus Mannheimia haemolytica. BIVI believes PYRAMID 5 + PRESPONSE SQ is a perfect fit for veterinarians and producers wanting to meet this requirement, with the additional benefits of:
· Convenience of a single dose
· The unique MetaStim® adjuvant system
· Enhanced immune response in calves to provide proven protection when respiratory disease challenges arise.
