We highlight four new products that beef producers should know about. Learn more about Agri-Mectin® Plus Clorsulon, Digi-Star TMR Tracker® version 4., CowBytes ration program and Kuhn SW 4004 large square bale wrapper.
1. Protect against flukes
AgriLabs® has added Agri-Mectin® Plus Clorsulon to its range of branded anthelmintics. Agri-Mectin Plus Clorsulon, which is available in 500-ml packages, is a sterile injectable dewormer that offers the advantages of ivermectin 1%, plus clorsulon to expand treatment and control of liver flukes in cattle.

Liver flukes are endemic in several U.S. regions with wet environments that support snail habitats. When snails become infected with the parasite Fasciola hepatica, they shed a motile ciliated form that attaches to grass and is subsequently ingested by grazing cattle, which then migrate to the animal’s liver to grow and shed eggs back into the environment, continuing the cycle. AgriLabs says such infestations can lead to weight loss and reduced milk output, and impact reproductive efficiency and body condition.

2. Updated TMR Tracker® introduced
TMR Tracker® version 4.1, Digi-Star’s latest update of its TMR Tracker feed management program, improves dry matter intake (DMI) tracking, offers flexible workday definitions and enhances premix options.

Version 4.1 provides a more accurate “income over feed cost” value by including feed concentrates in the total DMI amount per pen. Plus, users have more control in defining business transactions by setting the “shift clock” according to their schedule. The new premix option also allows feed managers to mix various ingredients in advance to minimize labor when picking up various smaller inclusion ingredients.

TMR Tracker 4.1 also allows for various count breaks when entering premix amounts in inventory. Operators can select the premix as an actual or dry weight, and enter 1-lb., 100-lb., 1,000-lb., and 1-ton increments.

3. Ration balancing
Save ration-balancing time with Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development’s easy-to-use program designed for cow-calf, backgrounding and feeder/finisher operations. CowBytes ($50, plus freight) balances all major nutrients and most micronutrients, plus it calculates the nutrient values of rations based on the amount of each feed chosen. The program allows combining of ration information with management and economics, making it a key decision-making tool for cattle producers.

CowBytes is Vista and Windows 7 or 8 compatible, and can run on Mac machines as long as an IBM emulator program, such as CrossOver or Parallel, is installed.

4. Large square bale wrapper
The Kuhn SW 4004 large square bale wrapper features a solid design and a hydraulic sliding feature that allows unique drive-through operation. This allows widening of the wrapper for easy bale loading, outstanding stability and unmatched visibility of the wrapping process.

The patented loading system has fewer moving parts, thus reducing bale damage and contamination. A unique roller pair picks up bales and automatically places them in their predefined position (horizontal or vertical start). Plus, the hydraulic sliding system boasts a transport width of 8 ft. The drawbar with Category II swivel headstock can be controlled via the monitor for unlimited turning angles.
