What’s the best kept secret in America? If you ask me, it’s the health benefits of beef! Often given a bad reputation for its fat content, new research is indicating that heart-healthy beef can lower cholesterol. Great news for beef eaters like myself who plan to enjoy tasty Christmas meals of prime rib and brisket this weekend!
According to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition , a new study called, “Beef in an Optimal Lean Diet (BOLD),” shows heart-healthy dietary patterns that contain lean beef elicit favorable effects on cardiovascular disease (CVD) lipid and lipoprotein risk factors. These results provide support for including lean beef in a heart-healthy dietary pattern.

I think Daren Williams, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) executive director of communications and blogger at Beef Man Bloggeth, says it best when he writes, “Behold, beef lovers, I bring you BOLD news of great joy! A new study published in the January 2012 edition of American Journal of Clinical Nutrition shows that eating 4.0-5.4 oz. of lean beef daily as part of a cholesterol-lowering diet can help lower LDL (”bad”) cholesterol by 10%!
