Participate In January’s Photo Caption Contest

As the end of January draws near, I thought it would be fun to have a photo caption contest to round out the month. Once again, Lauren Chase, photographer and multimedia outreach specialist for the Montana Stockgrowers Association, has provided a fun image to caption, so get your creative juices flowing and give me your best ideas!

This photo is timely, as calving season [3] is either just getting started or right around the corner for many cattlemen. When does calving season start in your operation? We have sorted off our first-calf heifers and those with closer due dates near the barn. Our first calves [4] are due any day now.

To enter this contest, simply leave a caption for the photo in the comments section below. The deadline to enter is noon on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013. The best captions will be announced on Feb. 5. Four winners will be selected by our editors, Joe Roybal, Jamie Purfeerst, Burt Rutherford and myself. With so many great ideas, it’s hard to narrow it down to just one, so each editor will get to choose their top pick!

The top four entrants will receive a copy of “Ranch School 101 [5]” by Don Gill. Good luck to all of you! And, thanks for your participation!

You can look forward to a monthly contest on this blog throughout 2013. Next on the agenda is a photography contest, with a “Winter” theme. Start taking lots of photographs and narrowing down your best one to send me in a couple of weeks! Stay tuned for more updates.
