Meat Market Update | Comprehensive Choice Cutout Up, Big Boost In Total Sales Volume

Ed Czerwien, USDA Market News reporter in Amarillo, TX, offers a summary of last week's beef trade  and how it impacts the cattle market and beef prices. For the week ending August 17, the comprehensive Choice cutout was up $2.78 over the last week with a big boost in total sales volume. It is important to the note that the daily spot Choice boxed beef cutout ended the week at $194.39, which was up $5.40 on the last week. The daily spot volume was only 764 loads for the week, which was the lightest non-holiday week since May and only about 10% of the total boxed beef sales for the week. This no doubt softened the impact of the sharp run-up on the comprehensive Choice cutout.
