Meat Market Update | Memorial Day Sales Fall Below Average

Ed Czerwien, USDA Market News reporter in Amarillo, TX, provides us with the latest outlook on boxed beef prices and the weekly cattle trade.

Typically, beef sold from this week will be delivered just ahead of the Memorial Day weekend. In the past, we have seen the total loads sold range from 7,000 to 8,500. This week's fell below average at 6,997.

The Daily Choice Cutout ended the week of Saturday, May 17 at $225.98, which was $2.72 higher than the previous Friday. The weekly total for the daily spot volume was 739 loads, and was about 11% of the sales for the week.
