World meat production grew 2% in 2004 over 2003, reports Worldwatch Institute (WI). In its “Vital Signs 2005” report, WI says 2004 meat production was 258 million tons, more than doubling since the 1970s, reports iowaagconnection.com .
The Food and Ag Organization (FAO) estimates world meat production in 2005 will increase to 265 million tons. FAO says the average person consumed 89¼ lbs. of meat in 2004, estimated to increase to almost 92 lbs. in 2005.
