Some students at Assumption College in Kilmore (Australia) are spending up to 10 minutes in small wire enclosures.
The exercise aims to simulate a hen's existence on an intensive poultry farm, according to Assumption College Principal Michael Kenny.
The odd lesson takes place on nearby Edgar's Mission, a well-known animal sanctuary.
Kenny says despite having a number of students from farms, none of them or any parents had complained about the Edgar's Mission factory farming lectures.
"We haven't had any negative comments from parents and the kids are really positive about the experience," Kenny says.
