Wulf Limousin has used the weekend of their annual sale to serve up relevant information as well as outstanding genetics to those in attendance. The event has grown, the information has become more detailed and the value to Wulf Limousin customers and the beef industry is significant.
Thursday evening, March 29, beef producers will be treated to dinner, followed by “What’s Under The Hide”. Mark Anderson, Executive Vice President, North American Limousin Foundation, will serve as moderator for the event. Dr. Ryan Cox, meat scientist, University of Minnesota will discuss pre-harvest effects on meat quality. Ryan has conducted research and is an industry thought leader regarding finishing practices from grass to corn fed.
Brad Brandenburg, Tyson Fresh Foods, will present information regarding the specifications Tyson seeks from its suppliers for multiple value-added programs. Wulfs continue to procure Limousin feeder cattle for specific markets, including non-hormone and natural programs. Wulfs provide information and consult with their customers who may be interested in managing cattle for a specific end-point target.
Several years ago Dr. Duane Wulf simplified bull selection by developing the Wulf Bull Indexes. The indexes are designed to avoid single-trait selection while considering optimum end-point targets. The indexes combine traits of economic importance for different types of bull customers. Duane will discuss using the indexes for mainstream markets, keeping replacement heifers, first calf heifers, leanness and higher marbling sire selection. Duane will be available to answer questions or assist with sire selection.
