Winter Weather Affects Livestock

Ken Scott is the owner of Grandview Hereford Farm in Raleigh County.

He has more than 100 head of cattle on his property, and he says it's a challenge to keep them fed and warm.

Building barriers to block and shelters can help with braving the wind.

Scott says when the cattle go into the barns or behind barriers, it can help increase their body temperature by as much as 20 degrees.

He says, "You either need have the facilities where we can keep them inside or at least have wind breaks, where animals can get behind a wall to break away from the wind. Getting out of the wind can really improve the amount of heat that the animal retains."
