May 21, 2010 – In order to meet the growing demand for independent food safety and feed quality testing, SGS Agricultural Services in North America has invested $1 million in expanding a state-of-the-art analytical laboratory in Brookings, South Dakota.
Primary areas of expansion include the Microbiology, Proximate Analysis, Pesticide Residue and Contaminate testing laboratories. Major additions included new equipment for DNA analysis, as well as GC MS (Gas Chromatography with Mass Spectrometer), LC MSMS (Liquid Chromatography with tandem Mass Spectrometer) and ICP OES (Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry) technologies, adding to SGS’s ability to test for the quality and safety of grains, feed, food, ingredients, co-products, and seeds.
As an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory, SGS Brookings offers comprehensive testing services including microbial analysis for bacterial contamination such as E. coli, Salmonella and Listeria; pesticide residue screens; nutritional labeling information; testing for contaminants such as melamine and antibiotics; GMO testing; oil analysis, mycotoxin testing; proximate analysis; mineral testing and more.
As always, SGS continues our mission of quick turnaround time, with rush testing available. Results are published in real time on our website, where they are password protected and archived.
In addition to testing services, SGS also offers a variety of audit solutions, including customized second-party audits as well as third-party audits through both accredited and non-accredited programs. Our auditors are trained in GMP+, GlobalGAP, FeedAssure™, and other ISO and HACCP based schemes.
