Beef Industry Future Looks Positive; China Key To Global Market Success

Pundits have long said, relative to China's potential as a market for U.S. beef, that even a small piece of 1 billion is a very big number. While that is certainly true, the Chinese have not been in any hurry to do any deals to the benefit of U.S. beef producers. That may change, says Terry Barr, senior director, CoBank Knowledge Exchange. The Chinese government is realizing that its goal of being 95% sufficient in all aspects of food production is unrealistic, and the opportunities for U.S. beef to go through the front door of the Chinese market are looking up.
