The Global Roundtable for Sustainable Beef continues to grow not only with new members but also new goals for the environment. The roundtable is comprised of various organizations across the beef supply chain. Zinpro joins other organizations such as ADM, US Financial marketplace, CME Group, Cargill and WWF.The members are dedicated to showing the world that the beef supply can be sustained in our world.

The roundtable has been around for 10 years and the aim is to show others that beef can be produced in a sustainable way. The goals of the roundtable include protecting and nurturing the world’s natural resources, protecting animal welfare and reducing the impact on the climate.

Zinpro joins GRSB to encourage the continuous learning and adoption of best practices in disease prevention and treatment measures, as well as quality nutrition, across the supply chain, and support them on their overall mission to ensure the beef value chain is a net positive contributor to nature by 2030.

Ruaraidh Petre, Executive Director of the Global Roundtable for Sustainable Beef says the beef industry is getting increased visibility in the spotlight as a villain in the environment. His advice is simple to beef producers.

“The best way to combat the negativity is to show what we are doing well,” Petre says. “Producers know how to tend to the welfare of their animals and it’s important to convey that to the public in a positive light.”

He added that means showing and telling those outside of the beef industry what producers are doing to promote sustainability. This means reducing emissions, using feed additives and pasture mixes to help with methane emissions.

Petre also explained that while the beef demand may be stable in developed countries, it is actually increasing in areas such as Latin America and South Africa.

“Meeting the demand can be done responsibly,” says Petre.

This means producers must get the word out that they are being responsible when it comes to the environment and make beef socially acceptable.

Petre says the commitment of these companies in the GRSB means the organization can continue to exchange knowledge and expertise, champion best practice, and ultimately improve the global food system for all.
