“We will be selling the same number as we annually do at our fall sale at Chimney Rock, 150 head,” says Cody Gariss. “We will be selling the bulls through auction [Nov. 6-7] which is also broadcast on the internet through DVAuction. We individually video each bull weeks prior to the sale and have always had a good response from those who purchase online or sight unseen as well as those who come in person, as videos give them more opportunity to do homework ahead of time.”
Gariss thinks the operation could see a similar trend to what they saw in the spring of 2020, with more activity on the internet as well as an increase in sight unseen orders at the auction, which would be a slight increase in both capacities compared to 2019.
“Our bull buyers have become pretty accustomed to buying balance, but I would say there will be a premium on calving ease bulls as usual.” Beyond that, consistency and balance in type and kind, EPD data, structural soundness and docility will be important traits as well, he says.
