The official start of spring is just a few days away. It sure hasn’t felt much like spring yet, with this year’s relentless snow, freezing wind, record-breaking cold temperatures and brutal winds. However, I am hopeful that spring weather will soon be on its way.

Despite the winter chill, adventures in spring calving continue, and to celebrate this time of year, we are asking ranchers to send their favorite images of newborn calves, gestating cows, hard-working producers, calving shelters, calf warmers or any other scenes that depict welcoming new life onto the ranch.

I’m excited to introduce our newest photo contest, “Scenes from Spring Calving!”

Sponsored by Igenity Beef,  this contest was created to highlight the cow-calf operators who are working tirelessly through every type of weather to ensure those baby calves get the best start to life.

We will be accepting entries from now until 8 a.m. CST on March 26. Please, limit to one entry per person. To enter, email me your name, mailing address, photo and caption/title to [email protected].

From there, we will narrow down the entries to 15, and we will announce our finalists on March 27. Then, we’ll enlist your help in voting for four champions. Voting will be open until April 1, and our champions will be announced on April 2.

And here’s the exciting part, the prizes — Igenity Beef is gifting our four champions with ten Igenity Beef DNA tests, valued at $290! What is this test? You can find more here, but in a nutshell, Igenity Beef DNA tests report on 16 traits to help you select, manage and market your cattle. Using Igenity profiles can help you know more about the genetic potential of young breeding stock before you have made significant investments in their development.

Plus, we’ll once again giveaway BEEF caps to three randomly selected voters.

As always, please stop back often and view the “Scenes from Spring Calving” photo gallery by clicking here.

Good luck to all of our participants. Thanks in advance for making this another great contest!
