Cattle Producers Fail To Sway National Beef

Added concessions weren’t enough for National Beef to overcome dwindling cattle numbers and will move ahead with the closure of its packing pant at Brawley, CA.

Local cattle feeders offered National Beef Packing Co. in excess of $9 million in additional cattle price discounts for 2014 and 2015 in order to stave off the planned April 4 closure of the packing facility at Brawley, CA.

That’s according to the Imperial Valley Cattle Feeders Group (IVCF). In a news release, the group explained the $9 million in concessions was in addition to the $15 million of discounts previously given National Beef in January last year.
Unfortunately, according to various reports earlier this week, these concessions weren’t enough for National to overcome dwindling cattle numbers.
