Winter storms with a lot of freezing rain caused bad road conditions and power outages which cut feeder cattle receipts in half compared to the previous week. Prices were unevenly steady to $4 lower on the yearlings and calves were unevenly steady with some weakness and some higher depending on the receipts at various auctions.
Slaughter cow receipts at the 20 test auctions from Pennsylvania through Idaho and the Southern Plains dropped from 10,000 head the previous week down to 6,000 head as weather conditions really impacted volume. Prices were $1-2 higher on the heels of the improving cow meat prices.
