Meat Market Update | Choice cutout continues decline

Ed Czerwien, USDA Market News reporter in Amarillo, TX, provides us with the latest outlook on boxed beef prices and the weekly cattle trade.

The Box Beef trade was stable with only a slight price drop and improved volume. Basically, the volume was good as meat buyers concentrated on beef items between Thanksgiving and Christmas. This is a normal situation as consumers tend to go back to more beef in between these two big holidays that feature ham and turkey. Also, there is starting to be more lower priced beef features since the wholesale prices have dropped quite a bit.
