Meat Market Update | Labor Day Beef Sales Volume Supports Fed Cattle Prices

Ed Czerwien, USDA Market News reporter in Amarillo, TX, provides us with the latest outlook on boxed beef prices and the weekly cattle trade.

The hot topic this week was that the declining prices promoted sales volume during the Labor Day weekend as well as out-front sales. The Labor Day weekend was so great in terms of sales volume that we had three weeks in a row that box beef sales were over 7,000 loads. We had not seen three 7,000-load weeks in a row since the spring of 2013, so it really supported the increase in fat cattle prices last week.
