Senate Hearing On State Of U.S. Livestock Is Tuesday

Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), chairwoman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Ag, Nutrition and Forestry, will hold a committee hearing June 28 to focus on challenges facing the American livestock industry.

Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), chairwoman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Ag, Nutrition and Forestry, will hold a committee hearing June 28 to focus on challenges facing the American livestock industry. To be examined are the tools needed to address those challenges and how to spur innovation and economic growth in the sector.

The hearing, “The State of Livestock in America,” is set for June 28 at 2:45 p.m. EST in the Dirksen Senate Office Building, room 106. A live, streaming webcast of the hearing will be available for viewing on the Committee website at ag.senate.gov.

Among the witness list on the two panels are:

Panel 1: Joe Glauber, USDA chief economist; Greg Parham, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service administrator; Alfred V. Almanza, Food Safety and Inspection Service administrator; and Dave White, Natural Resources Conservation Service chief.

Panel 2: Rick Sietsema, farmer, Allendale, MI; Dennis O. Jones, pork producer, Bath, SD; Steven D. Hunt, CEO, U.S. Premium Beef, Kansas City, MO; Frank Harper, Kansas Livestock Association, president-elect, Sedgwick, KS; Michael Welch, Harrison Poultry president and CEO, Bethlehem, GA; and Hans McPherson, rancher, Stevensville, MT.
