Last year, Kubota rolled out the L3560HSTC-LE tractor. Based on the company's popular Grand L Series line, this model peeled off some less popular options to provide a different price point in the market. Turns out it was very popular. The company is launching three new models today – Oct. 26 – to expand this LE line.

"That was a market-driven model that was providing an affordable cab tractor within that 20 to 40 hp segment," says Kelcey Richardson, Kubota product manager. "We found when we launched [L60-LE] that there was a market need for product in that segment that basically provided the best bang for the buck."

What started as a single model has grown into the L60 LE Series of tractors. They get the transmission, engine, and chassis found on the higher-end Grand L series, but with fewer standard features. "Buyers will find that operator's station, the comfortable seat and the wide platform," Richardson says.

That electronic HST transmission is also included in the new series. It's a popular transmission because it offers both power and a smooth ride in the segment.

The tractor market is segmenting, especially in the 20 to 40 hp range, where Kubota has long held a strong market position. One challenge is lower-priced, budget tractors that have less features – essentially 'raw horsepower' for those around the farm and ranch jobs. They can eat into market share for premium machines, if that's all you sell.

For Kubota the L60 LE tractors can serve that value-priced customer while providing features popular for many. "You're still getting a nice machine," Richardson says. She likens the two-tiered models to what General Motors has done marketing a Cadillac and a Chevy. They may have the same chassis, engine and even transmission, but style and options set the two apart.

A look at the line

The L3560LE was launched in a cab version. It will be joined by an open station ROPS version to expand the line. In addition, the line gets the L4060LE in both a cab and ROPs version providing more power. Cabs on these machines come standard with heater and air conditioning.

The machines all have Stall Guard and Auto Throttle Advance, which are part of the HST Plus transmission and allow any operator, no matter their experience level, to operate the machines. Other features include a heavy-duty three-point hitch with a 2,646-pound lift capacity (24-inches behind the pin) on the L3560LE, and 2,760 pounds (24-inches behind the pin) on the L4060LE.

Loaders are popular in this tractor class and buyers can choose the LA555 or LA805 front loader. The L60LE Series has a loader lift capacity of up to 1,715 pounds (at the pivot pin) and a front loader maximum lift height of up to 105 inches(at pivot pin).

The BH77 and BH92 backhoes are matched to the line too. The tractors feature a full-flat deck and a quick attach/detach mounting system, which maximizes legroom for the operator.

A mid-mount PTO is optional and allows use of a range of attachments including front-mounted snow removal implements.

The tractors can be matched with a full line of implements and attachments from Land Pride, also a division of Kubota.

Adds Richardson: "There's a market out there that wants something that offers more than economically priced tractors. They want machines with some premium features. We'll not fit all needs, but for people in the middle we're offing the best of both."
