Mike Pearson takes a look at corn production in Brazil.
The University of Illinois publishes a newsletter called, Farm DOC Daily and three ag economists wrote about what they expect from the Brazilian corn harvest this year.
The economists expect it to be smaller than the 2023 harvest but it will still be a monster.
Brazil is expected to harvest 4.5 billion bushels of corn-- the second largest corn crop in the country's history.
The harvest is expected to be 12 percent smaller than 2023 due to smaller fields and lower yields in the second crop.
Adverse weather conditions influenced by El Nino also played a role in the smaller corn crop.
The yields are expected to be down 88 bushels per acre and total of 700 million bushel from 2023.
The third crop will be around 95 million bushels a 12 percent increase over 2023.
The United States is expected to reclaim the title of #1 corn exporter, a title that went to Brazil last year.
Farm Progress America is a daily look at key issues in agriculture. It is produced and presented by Mike Pearson, farm broadcaster and host of This Week in Agribusiness.
